Turning The Tide Announces 2023 Recipients for the 6th Annual Newfoundland and Labrador Marine Industry Awards
St. John’s, NL, May 29, 2023 – The 2023 recipients of the prestigious Turning the Tide Marine Industry Awards were announced today. These annual awards honour excellence and innovation in Newfoundland and Labrador’s marine industry.
Turning the Tide Chairman Paul Antle joined fellow board members for the announcement at the National Research Council – Ocean, Coastal and River Engineering Research Centre.
“As we prepare for the 6th Annual Awards Gala, we are pleased to announce the 2023 Turning the Tide Marine Industry Award recipients,” says Mr. Antle. “We received so many qualified applicants, with such diverse backgrounds. That is a testament to the vibrancy of our marine industry and the winners we are announcing here today speak loudly to its strength and diversity.”
“The North Atlantic has always been fundamental to our identity. Our history is inseparable from the salt water. While our oldest industry has relied on her bounty to feed the world, today the North Atlantic provides us with the inspiration to take a larger, more innovative place on the world stage.”
The Awards program consists of five awards recognizing individuals and organizations that have contributed to the development of the marine industry in Newfoundland and Labrador.
The 2023 Award recipients are as follows:
- Industry Leadership & Excellence: St. Anthony Basin Resources Inc. (SABRI)
- Industry Lifetime Achievement: Bernard (Tanny) Collins
- Innovation Leadership Award: eDNAtec
- Award of Historical Significance: Royal Commission on the Ocean Ranger Marine Disaster (RCORMD)
- Next Wave Leadership Award: Samantha Strowbridge
“We are honoured to see and celebrate the work and dedication of those in this industry. We welcome the opportunity to come together in celebration and the potential for continued prosperity and growth,” says Mr. Antle.
At the Gala on September 14th, organizers will present an annual funding donation to the Home from The Sea Foundation. Chris Collingwood spoke on behalf of the Home from The Sea board of directors.
“Home from The Sea works to ensure the stories of our people, and the connections to our marine industry are handed down to future generations,” says Mr. Collingwood. “The ongoing commitment from the Turning the Tide Marine Industry Awards supports that important work and the operations at the John C. Crosbie Sealers Memorial in Elliston.”
